Our new speciality-designed bags are helping support NHS Charities Together

We recognise the bravery and resilience of all NHS workers during these tough times.

Our colleagues are doing their bit to support our wonderful NHS by making it easier for them to do what they do best: save lives.

To show our continued support, we are introducing new, specially designed bags in our 560 Foodhalls. We’ll then be donating 100% of the profits (10p per bag) to NHS Charities Together to support staff and volunteers caring for Covid-19 patients.

The limited-edition bags were inspired by suggestions from three of our hardworking colleagues through our internal Suggest to Steve platform, Michaela from Croydon store, Christine from Abbey Centre and Jo from Menswear technology. They feature a rainbow and heart design – a symbol of unity during these challenging times and a ‘Thank You’ message to show our appreciation for our NHS heroes who are working round the clock to look after us all and save lives.

Michaela, who has been at M&S for 37 years, is one of our colleagues who inspired us to introduce our new NHS bags. While Michaela is usually a Clothing & Home Manager at our Croydon store, she has stepped in to help our Eltham Foodhall. We’re blown away and ever grateful for the dedication shown by our colleagues.

After speaking to customers about their passion to show support for the NHS, Michaela and others put forward an idea to launch special NHS bags for charity. She feels as though she’s done her bit to make a small difference to support the people working for the NHS:

“Working at M&S feels like I’m part of a family and we truly are all in this together. I’ve been blown away by the appreciation our customers have shown to M&S colleagues in store, but I believe the real heroes throughout all of this are the NHS workers."

Stuart Machin, Managing Director M&S Food is uplifted by seeing suggestions – big and small – pouring in from colleagues and customers about how we can get behind our communities and key workers.

“We’re doing our bit, as well as helping customers to do theirs, to support our NHS heroes who are working tirelessly to save lives. We’re so pleased that we’ve been able to turn another brilliant idea into action by launching these bags to say a big thank you to the NHS.”
