Deaf Awareness Week 2019: Our Role Model, Spencer
This is Spencer’s story. Spencer joined us at entry level role at our Castle Donington Distribution Centre and progressed to Team Manager in less than five years.
How did he do it? He had a goal and the determination to follow it through. Spencer didn’t come to us simply wanting to do a job. He turned up ready to build a career. This meant making the most of every opportunity that came his way. He learned all he could at every stage of his career journey, immersing himself in his role and environment to develop understanding and to make progress.
Spencer went out of his way to go above and beyond the responsibilities of his role. His initiative and enthusiasm saw him approach his disability in a different way, accentuating the positives. Spencer is deaf. This has never held him back. In fact, he’s taught us what this means and what we can do to help him be his best. He’s shared his insights with colleagues, so they’ve all learned something new. He’s shown how, if you have the right attitude and want it enough, you can get to where you want to be. Spencer has.
