Operatives

You could call the Castle Donington Distribution Centre our largest single store. The scale and size of this operation is impressive. It’s 900,000 square feet. It holds up to 16 million products – and it dispatches a staggering 2.2 million items every week. At the heart of our growing eCommerce business is a team of dedicated, conscientious Operatives. Each one understands that the next person to receive their package will be the customer, and that wherever they are in the world, our customers expect the seamless, quality experience that is the hallmark of M&S service.

This is one of Europe’s largest state-of-the-art distribution facilities. So expect to work with cutting-edge technology and receive dedicated training. With an operation this vast, there’s a wide range of areas to work in, whether you join us on a permanent, full-time basis (days or nights), or help out in our busy festive period.

We’ll make you feel part of the team with good rates of pay, training, uniform and safety equipment, plus there’s free parking, car sharing/cycle-to-work schemes and our staff restaurant.

Temporary Seasonal Opportunities – Part Time

In the run-up to Christmas, we need to work together to keep the centre running smoothly. If you’re looking for full or part-time work from October to January, we’d love to bring your conscientious, customer-first approach on board. There will be opportunities right across the centre.

We need reliable and diligent people to join us part time on mornings (Mon-Fri 10am-2pm) and weekends (available shifts on both days and nights).

Operative Departments

Inbound

This is where we receive goods into our store. You'll unload them carefully and ensure they are accurately sent to destinations all over the centre.

Repack (PPP)

Our pick auto systems are technologically advanced and highly efficient. Here, you'll take boxed products from inbound and distribute them, making sure the pick auto systems stay fully stocked.

Pick Automation

Our ‘Pick-by-Light' system uses light displays to help with stock picking. This is cutting-edge technology and we've found it to be the most efficient way to pick as it brings the products to you. This is where we also collate retail and customer delivery details.

Pick manual

Occasionally, stock needs to be picked manually. In this department you'll collect bulky or unusually shaped items and take them to where they need to go.

Pack

This is where you'll carefully pack customer orders and prepare them for collection at one of our stores (part of our ‘shop your way' service) or have them delivered directly to the customer's home. As the last person to touch the item before the customer, you'll make sure everything's as you would want to receive it - perfect.

Dispatch

This is the final stage – loading trailers safely and efficiently for their onward journeys. You'll see packages on their way to regional distribution centres to stock up stores or deliver 'shop your way' parcels. Or you'll despatch customer parcels directly to our customers' homes.
