About the programme

As you can imagine, food is pretty important to us. Millions of customers every day come to us for outstanding fresh produce. And we know that a large part of our global appeal comes down to the quality of our mouth-watering products, which in turn, has a positive effect upon everything else we sell and our entire brand.

So, in terms of roles with impact, they don’t come much bigger than our Food Technology programme. As you train to become a Food Technologist, you’ll learn on the job with our highly skilled team – guardians of food safety, quality and legality. Day-to-day you’ll work alongside Buyers and Product Developers, to bring new products to life, from their initial concept in the kitchen to full-scale production at our factories and finally, to our stores. From holding quality control panels, to investigating customer complaints and attending new product trials at suppliers, you’ll find that no two days are the same.

As well as spending time in stores, you’ll also liaise with suppliers – building relationships and ensuring they maintain the highest quality products and factory standards. If you successfully complete this graduate programme, you’ll also become a fully-fledged Food Technologist.

In terms of qualifications, we’re looking for a scientific degree covering microbiology and HACCP. Passionate about high quality food, you’ll also need to be a strong communicator who likes working through problems and coming up with new solutions.
