  • When will vacancies appear online for a specific store? 95

Because each store manages the posting of their own vacancies on the website, we're not able to provide timescales of when open positions will appear. We'd recommend checking back to the website on a regular basis to see if there's a vacancy in your preferred store(s). For our Bakery, Beauty, Cafe, Deli, Kitchen and Visual Merchandising roles, you can register your details with us for any future opportunities.

For Section manager roles these are advertised as a cluster of stores as opposed to individual stores as we may have several successful candidates on the day and we are usually able to offer them a position within the required mobility of an hour and fifteen minutes from their home.

Unfortunately not. As the online tests run on an automated system, we're unable to provide you with feedback.

  • Why are there no opportunities showing for my local store? 56

This is because there are no current vacancies with interview slots available for the store in question. Only those stores with current vacancies and interview times available are displayed on the site. If you're interested in a role in a particular store, we recommend checking back to the website on a regular basis to see if any are available.

For Section Manager roles we recruit regularly for most regions if you utilize our Job Alerts facility you will be notified when the region is recruiting. Or you can start your application via our Talent Bank if successful you will be notified when interview slots become available.

  • I've seen/started to apply for a vacancy, but now it's disappeared - what's happened? 55

Because the recruitment website is a live system, vacancies will only remain there as long as interview slots are available. Once the interview slots are filled, vacancies will be removed. We'd recommend checking back to the website on a regular basis, as additional vacancies are often being posted. If you've registered with us, we'll notify you by email when there's a potential opportunity.

For Section Manager roles because the recruitment website is a live system, vacancies will only remain there as long as interview slots are available. Once the interview slots are filled, vacancies will be removed. If you have started your application, we will be in touch when further roles are added. If you haven’t applied but have seen a role, then we would suggest that you start your application via our Talent Bank if successful you will be notified when interview slots become available.

  • I withdrew my application, but have changed my mind and now want to proceed with it. What should I do? 50

Unfortunately, it's not possible to re-instate a withdrawn application, so you'll need to start a new one. Depending on the role you've applied for, you'll need to wait between 6 - 12 months after your initial application to re-apply.

The website refreshes every 30 minutes. Stores with vacancies and interview slots available update too. When a store has filled all available interview slots for a specific vacancy, that vacancy will be removed from the site.

  • I've booked an interview online, but haven't received a confirmation, or heard anything back. What should I do? 44

In the first instance, please check that you've selected and confirmed the interview date on your application. Next, check the Junk folder on your email account, as we always send an email confirmation of the date you've booked and sometimes this can end up in the Junk email folder, depending on the computer's settings. If you've checked both those things and still need support, please contact us on 0345 300 3725 and we'll be happy to check the status of your application.

  • How many stores can I apply to? 44

Your initial application will be made for one store. However, if this store has no interview slots available but an alternative store in the same region has, we'll offer you a replacement interview slot there.

For Section Manager roles, they are advertised under a cluster of stores the confirmation email only pulls through the name of the store that the vacancy was created under. Don’t worry at the assessment centre they will have a discussion with you regarding your mobility and if successful you will be offered a vacancy within the required mobility of one hour and fifteen minutes from your home. You will typically start at a training store for up to 3 months, so that you can get the best training and then move to a permanent store.

  • For Section Managers why do you offer video interviews rather than telephone interviews? 5

Video interviews can be done at your convenience 24- 7. This tends to fit in with our candidates who work a variety of shifts. The process is easy and can be completed on an Ipad or PC. Also, as you know M&S Section Managers also use a great deal of technology at work, so we do expect our candidates to be able to navigate through HireVue (the video provider) as it is very easy to use.
