About the programme

Food has always been at the centre of the M&S story. We’ve pioneered industry firsts from fresh chilled chicken in the 1960s to 2004’s headline-grabbing Melt in the Middle Chocolate Puddings. And with delectable new arrivals like the runny Scotch egg, orange wine and homegrown purple asparagus, we’re still very much first for food.

Such a fast-paced and innovative food business makes for an extraordinary learning environment. On our new Food Product Development internship, you’ll have eight weeks to take it all in. If you’re a fresh thinker dreaming of a high-flying future in food, this is a uniquely fulfilling way to spend the summer after the first or second year of your food-related degree.

It’s your chance to discover first-hand how the brightest minds in the industry answer the big foodie questions to create the most amazing food experiences possible... Which recipes can we improve and how? What delicious new foods can we create to set millions of British tastebuds tingling?

To find the answers, you’ll be working on real projects and different attachments. Interns on projects in the past have focused on birthday gifting, chilled hampers and our Deli Express. Along the way, you’ll also get to visit stores and suppliers, network with other food interns and benefit from valuable management training. You’ll be meeting some great people too, either on the job or through informal socialising.

This is the perfect opportunity for a first or second-year student to get creative in a crucial part of our business. So you’ll need to combine your passion for food with ideas and imagination. Ideally, you’ll also have a food-related qualification.

It’s a well-rounded, action-packed eight weeks that could lead to much greater things. Impress us now and you’ll be improve your chances of success if you apply for our graduate programmes – with all of the phenomenal prospects this opens up.

This internship will be based in London.
